An observational prospective cohort study assessed the prognostic role of serum uric acid levels in patients undergoing cardiac rehabilitation after myocardial revascularization and/or cardiac valve surgery. The findings mentioned in the European Heart Journal demonstrated that serum uric acid levels can help in predicting mortality and adverse cardiovascular outcome in this set of patients. The rates of overall mortality, cardiovascular mortality and major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events were remarkably higher in patients with increased serum uric acid levels, even after the adjustment for age, sex, arterial hypertension, diabetes, glomerular filtration rate and medical therapy.
